I love the story of the prophetess Anna. The story goes that she was an aged widow woman, after being married only 7 years. (BTW, you can find her story in Luke 2:36-38.) She was 85. She never left the temple; fast and praying day and night. She was there when they presented Jesus in the templed to be circumcised. She she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
Anna is the precise picture of patience. She was a foreshadowing of what Christ would do for his people; how long they’d have to wait for his redemption.
To be that patient day in and day out: Most of us can’t even be patient waiting in a fast food line. I think what Anna so appealing to me is that I think she waited with GRACE. She didn’t do it with a frown, like waiting on kids who should have been in the car 15 minutes ago; knowing school starts in 5 minutes. No: she knew the Lord would come in His timing. She was continually praising God. How much joyful would my life be if I followed Anna’s example.
